| Painfree Sedation Technique |
| |
| Sedation dentistry is a term that refers to the use of anesthesia during treatment to put patients into a relaxed state, almost like sleep. Sedation dentistry is often used during procedures that require an extensive amount of time in the treatment chair, and sedation is ideal for patients who exhibit dental phobia or have difficulty controlling their movements (this includes children). While sedation dentistry implies that patients are unconscious, this is usually not the case. Some forms of sedation dentistry simply alleviate anxiety or put patients in a sleep-like state, so that little is felt or remembered from the dentistry procedure. |
| |
| Dental sedation is recommended for: |
| » |
longer procedures |
| » |
young patients with behavioural difficulties |
| » |
medical conditions that cause involuntary movements, such as Parkinson's or cerebral palsy |
| » |
patients with "dental phobia"—patients who become panic-stricken and, in some cases, ill at the thought of entering a dental office. |
|
| |
Types of Dental Sedation
The 3 most common forms of sedation on offer are: |
| » |
Inhalation sedation (also known as “laughing gas”, “happy gas”, nitrous oxide, “gas and air”, relative analgesia) |
| » |
Oral sedation (anti-anxiety pills or a liquid) |
| » |
Intravenous (IV) sedation (drugs administered into the blood-stream through a vein – that’s what “intravenous” stands for) |
|
| |
With the use of flapless implant technique the procedures are faster, easier, safer and with no bleeding. As such even full mouth implant cases are completed fast and without any bleeding. The indications for sedation have decreased. When needed we use oral sedation for apprehensive patients, though our center has full facility for intravenous sedation and also general anaesthesia. |
